Learning how to properly use compression is hard. You may know what those knobs are and you think you understand how to use them. But then you end up just spinning knobs until you achieve what you wanted to hear.
There is a slight difference between the attack and release settings and it’s quite difficult to distinguish. You can use a compressor to smooth out dynamic performances, add attack to transients, or even fatten tracks up with distortion using the right settings. If you are aiming for explosive room mics or subtle bus glue, the attack and release settings are key.
