Compressors: What And When To Use It

With the number of compressors available today, most engineers would be familiar with them but when it comes to their difference and what they really do, there is not much information available.
Although most compressors today are based on four different electronic building blocks there are still differences and here is a breakdown of them.  Here is a list of characteristics and how we can actually use them.
Optical Style:
With the use of a light bulb and photocell, there is quite a delay that gives this type a distinctive attack and release time. Best time to use it is for vocals.
