The very popular and free video editor Audacity has recently been updated. Audacity v2.2.0 now has MIDI playback, as well as new GUI themes. Audacity has been in existence for a long time in this space and is often the first choice of audio editing software for many. This latest update is so exciting because it brings Audacity that much closer to being an actual digital audio workstation. At this point, it seems like it’s a matter of time before Audacity supports VST instruments in future versions. Audacity 2.2.0 also now comes with four visual themes, which means that the user interface can be visually customized.
Key Takeaways:
- Audiacity is one of the most popular free audio editors because it is a dedicated program, not stripped down pay ware
- Virtual instruments in the VST plugin format are not yet implemented, so the default MIDI engine for Windows will have to do for now
- This release also includes Audiacity’s first ever customizable user interface, shipping with four different themes
“This latest Audiacity update is truly an exciting one. It introduces MIDI playback, Pushing Audacity one step closer to becoming a proper digital audio workstation.”
