What Kind Of Headphones Does Ryan Beatty Wear In AT&T Commercial?

Ryan Beatty is wearing a pair of Skullcandy Uprock headphones I here recent commercial For the AT&T No Text Pledge. The Uprocks are lightweight stylish, excellent sounding headphones. The 40mm drivers make for great sounding bass and high-end detail. They also use the handy tangle-free flat cable with a 1/8th inch gold connector plug. These are simple, straightforward headphones that don't have active noise cancellation or ipod/phone control or anything like that.  Consequently they are MUCH more affordable than those other headphones (such as Beats by Dr. Dre) at just about $25. Victoria Azarenka Wore Powerbeats by Dr. Dre In-Ear Headphones At US Open

Add Victoria Azarenka to the list of athletes who wear Dr. Dre headphones. At the 2012 US Open, it was very clear to see that she was wearing Powerbeats by Dr. Dre In-Ear Headphones during her pre-match interview for both the semi-finals on Friday and the finals on Sunday. The thing that is different about these though, is that they are more like ear buds than headphones. I really like this type of headphone because they allow you to go jogging without falling out of your ears like regular ear buds. And it would be pretty awkward to jog with full-on headphones. The Powerbeats provide the same great audio quality as the full-sized headphones in the Dr. Dre line, the Beats by Dr. Dre. Plus unlike most ear bud type phones, these offer ControlTalk for on-cable iPod/iPhone control. To … [Read more...]

Headphones Emily Chang Wears In Ruffles Commercial

There's a new ad out for Ruffles Ultimate that features actress Emily Chang wearing headphones that are blinged-out with rhinestones.  In our continuing effort to point out all things audio in pop culture, we immediately did the research to find out what headphones these were.  They are a pair of Technics RP-DJ1200 headphones that were then blingified by a company called Bling Affair (blingaffair.com). The commercial, if you have not seen it, shows Emily Chang (playing a quiet girlfriend character named Katie) being allowed to play poker with the boys.  She eats a Ruffles chip and suddenly she has sunglasses and the headphones on.  After the next bite, she has a leather jacket.  Basically she gets cooler with each chip and impresses all the dudes.  She finishes by smoothly exclaiming … [Read more...]

How To Build A Home Recording Studio, Pt 5: Accessories

This is part 5 in our How to Build a Home Recording Studio series that shows you how to set up a computer-based studio capable of recording pro-quality audio. In part 4, we talked about audio recording and editing software. Today, let’s talk about the accessories - things like mic stands, headphones, pop filters, etc.  These are the supporting actors in most cases - the things that make it easy for us to use the microphones, interfaces and software that make up the leading roles in our studio.  An argument could be made for monitor speakers being more of a lead actor, especially for music recording and mixing.  But since we are starting out with more of an all-around basic studio that many of us will use only for voice-over type work, the speakers get second billing. Mic Stands - … [Read more...]

Headphones Tom Daley Wore At Olympic Diving Finals 2012

British diver, Tom Daley, wore a pair of Sennheiser Adidas HD 25 Originals headphones at the 2012 Olympic diving finals Saturday night (August 11th), where he won the bronze medal for Team GB.  This was as opposed to the phones he was spotted wearing early in the games, which were Beats By Dr. Dre cans.  The reason this is significant is that the Sennheisers are "official" because the company is an official Olympic sponsor. Several athletes, divers most conspicuous among them, have made a splash (ha!) by wearing the unofficial Beats By Dr. Dre headphones, which were shipped and distributed to Olympic athletes under the radar of Olympic scrutiny.  But in the end British heart-throb, Tom Daley, walked the straight-and-narrow while legally sporting the correct cans as he won the 10-meter … [Read more...]

Beats By Dr Dre Seen Often On Olympic Divers

Beats By Dr Dre headphones were seen on a large number of Olympic athletes in 2012. It is one of the most effective marketing moves I've seen, made more remarkable by the fact that the company is not an official sponsor of the Olympics.  One reason this is so amazing is that there is an International Olympic rule that says athletes aren't supposed to promote products that are not "official" sponsors.  But Dr. Dre handed out bunches of his Studio versions to the athletes, even creating a special version in Great Britain's colors and Union Jack design. As a result, a lot of athletes, most visibly (on American network TV coverage anyway) divers, openly wore their headphones, which offer active noise-cancellation, in between events to help them focus.  Several prominent athletes, such as … [Read more...]

Headphones Katie Bell Wore At 2012 Olympics

The American Olympic diver, Katie Bell (not to be confused with the Gryffindor quidditch player;)), wore some awesome headphones in between her dives during her competition at the 2012 Olympics - the Monster Power Beats by Dr. Dre High Definition Isolation headphones. She was not alone in her preference for these particular noise-cancelling headphones.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, her co-Olympians, American swimmer, Anthony Ervin and diver, Kristian Ipsen, and Chinese swimmer Sun Yang also wore these same cans. They offer awesome comfort (since they totally encircle the ears) and audio quality, as well as high quality noise cancellation and inline iPhone control. Click here to heck them out and maybe pick up a pair for yourself. … [Read more...]

Michael Phelps Told To Cover His SOL REPUBLIC Tracks Headphones?

Earlier in the week I wrote about the cool headphones worn by Michael Phelps in between swims at the 2012 Olympics.  They were the SOL REPBULIC Tracks, and each time they showed him on TV, he had a different pair or had switched out the changeable bands. But on the night of his last swim, he came out with a hoodie over his headphones.  And when the camera showed him in close-up, it was clear that there was a piece of white tape covering the SOL REPUBLIC logo.  What's up with that? I'm assuming there is some sort of rule about sponsorship or anything that might make it appear that an athlete is promoting a product during the Olympics.  I certainly understand that.  But it seemed a bit late to put that genie back in the bottle considering the SOL REPUBLICS loud and proud at his 6 … [Read more...]

Headphones Anthony Ervin, Kristian Ipsen and Sun Yang Wore At 2012 Olympics

American Olympic swimmer, Anthony Ervin and diver, Kristian Ipsen, and Chinese swimmer Sun Yang wore Monster Power Beats by Dr. Dre High Definition Isolation headphones in between swims and dives at the 2012 Olympics.  Athletes often wear headphones like these because it helps them focus as they isolate themselves with around-the-ear ear cups providing noise reduction and great sound for music.  Michael Phelps, for example, wears the SOL REPUBLIC Tracks, and Troy Dumais, the American Diver, wears the Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones. The Monster Power Beats by Dr. Dre High Definition Isolation headphones, are around-the-ear phones, which totally encircle you ears, as opposed to the on-ear type that sort of just smoosh your ears against your head - albeit, very … [Read more...]

Headphones Troy Dumais Wore At 2012 Olympics

It seems that identifying and posting what kind of headphones the Olympic athletes are wearing was a quite popular thing to do, so why not continue?  Troy Dumais, the American diver, was seen several times wearing his Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones.   Athletes frequently wear headphones like these because it helps them focus as they isolate themselves with noise reduction and great audio quality for music.  Michael Phelps, for example, wears the SOL REPUBLIC Tracks.  American Olympic swimmer, Anthony Ervin and diver, Kristian Ipsen, and Chinese swimmer Sun Yang wore Monster Power Beats by Dr. Dre High Definition Isolation headphones These headphones are silver and elegant, providing around-the-ear comfort, advanced noise reduction (according to the Bose … [Read more...]
